Research methods

Our lab uses genetically modified rodents to determine how deletion of specific proteins affects whole animal physiology. Specifically, we measure adiposity through imaging tools such as echo MRI and insulin sensitivity through glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance tests. We also utilize cell culture for a more simplified approach. We then use tools, such as droplet digital PCR and Western Blotting, to determine molecular mechanisms that affect lipid metabolism and insulin signaling in adipose and muscle tissue.
